Fix Broken Downloads

Fix Broken Downloads

Posted by tech master  |  at  12:17 AM

I hope all of you know this method but those who don't this will be a time/money saver...

All of us download files from internet which always ranges from few KB's to MB's or GB's.

Consider a scenario of you downloading a file (lets say 1GB) through a download manager and after sometime
the file is downloaded till 60% but the site from which you are downloading doesn't support Resume feature.
and all of sudden your download is interrupted because of the following reasons:
1) ISP gone down...network connectivity Error
2) Electricity gone...(no UPS)...dammit!!!
3) Sudden PC restart/shutdown (Oh Man... )
4) Any other condition which suits here

what you will do then, the download manager gave up saying "Source file returned HTML file..do u want to replace it?" but u don't want an HTML (few KB's)
even if u click on resume the Download Manager will return the same message...

now all u will do is curse the incident and begin downloading from start (0%)

NO but wait before doing the same thing again you can save a hell lot of time by Resuming the download (which u might be thinking should have worked...)

sure it won't work straight away

just follow these simple steps

1) Never yes u hear that right "Never Ever..." click on the Yes button when the above ".HTML.." or any other message appears.Just Ignore/Cancel the Message Box.
2) If you have done step 1 then all is well...Now read the below theory

"All Download Managers including Torrent Downloader (e.g Utorrent) never downloads file in a sequential manner...all they download the file in Random order if u have seen the progress bar"
OK so now your download manager must have 60% (or any other amount) of file downloaded in your harddisk but not as a complete file
the file name would say e.g file001.odp or file001.rtv (the . suffix will differ according to the download managers as all of them append their file extension before it is completed)

so,just take a backup of the above partially downloaded file and delete it from its original location and also delete it from the Download Managers Queue
The above bold line is very very important.

3) Now,go again to the website download link and click the download button the file will start downloading again (from 0%) and now as soon as it completes few KBs just pause the download
and copy/paste back the previous backup file over to new one and click Resume...

Voila! you have your download starting from 60% again (or wherever it was left)

Note: This is helpful for those who have Limited MB plan/Slow internet...even high speed net users can use this method (not to shame)

Well this what I ESP...means I Experimented I succeed I Posted

Also, I m 99% sure that this will work with all of you only 1% chance will be either the Download Manager algorithm is different or may be the source website is doing some crazy stuff to stop this Trick

Moving Steam games between computers

Moving Steam games between computers

Posted by tech master  |  at  11:48 PM

I recently got a new computer for myself, and i wanted to try out my Steam games on it.
Unfortunately, it seemed that i'd have to re-download my entire library of games
Now, i get 15GB at 1 mbps under FUP, but thats not enough to cover my needs, and i do need to browse the net too.
So, i searched high and low for a definite solution to my problem, and uncovered a lot of "tips and tricks"

i list them here :
1. copy the whole Steam folder to the new computer
2. install steam in new comp, then paste the "steamapps" folder only
3. same as 2, except, delete everything except steam.exe and steamapps folder, and then run steam, so that it downloads just the steam files

after any of these, i was supposed to go to steam, and click each game and "check integrity of files", so that steam could know that the files were there, and didnt need to be re-downloaded.
unfortunately, in most cases, steam refused to start, though i hit potluck with the 2nd method, and managed to copy over one game(zombie shooter 2) with it.

now, i present to you THE foolproof method to transfer steam games between 2 computers.
i do believe that its possible to transfer the games between 2 different computers with different accounts, though i havent tried it yet.(this means that you'd be able to take steam games from your computer and give them to a friend, provided he has purchased the game, and not yet installed it)

Here goes :

1. Install Steam in both computers
2. Run Steam in the source computer
3. Click "Steam" in the menubar of the Steam client
4. Select "Backup and restore games" option
5. Select which games you wish to backup
6. Get the backup folder to the destination computer
7. Repeat steps 2-4
8. Select which games you wish to restore
9. Voila!!! You now have your games back!!!
10. ????
11. Profit!

If you happen to have a external HDD, you are in luck, as Steam backups are amazingly huge (almost the size of the actual games, themselves)

If not, then divide the backup folder into multiple RAR volumes, and use a large capacity pen drive, or even connect the two computers together, if you happen to be on Windows 7, using the homegroup. Else, you can use a FTP client like Filezilla or Everything's inbuilt HTTP/FTP capablity to transfer the files.

HOWTO - Protecting your Windows system

HOWTO - Protecting your Windows system

Posted by tech master  |  at  11:56 PM

Step One: The Core

This is the single most important piece of your computer. Chances are that if there's something wrong with this, the weakest link in the chain, everything will come crashing straight on top of you. I am talking about the Single Point of Failure (SPoF) on your system - the Operating System.

This critical piece (actually, make that ultra-hyper-mega-critical) of software is what manages the entire show and you dont want any unnecessary software messing with it. Not all Operating Systems are created equal. Technically speaking, server OSes are some of the safest OSes around. But usually you cannot go around installing these OSes unless you're a total geek with around 10 computers around your home and you need software to centrally manage them. When it comes to a single desktop OS, currently Microsoft Windows XP rules the roost.

Your choice of Windows OS preference in the order of safest first is:
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Home
Windows 2000 Professional
Windows NT 4.0
Windows 98 SE
Windows ME
Windows 98
Windows 95

I would recommend you either stick to the Windows XP OSes, Windows 2000 Professional or Windows 98 SE. Needless to say, Microsoft Windows XP is currently the most safe computing environment for a user. And that neatly brings us to our next topic.

Step Two: Patching it Up

No OS is secure if you are running it straight out of the box. A long list of vulnerabilities are detected by security experts and Microsoft routinely releases update software to address these vulnerabilities and close them. Updates may either be :
Service Packs
Critical Updates
Hotfixes
Cumulative Updates / Rollups
Hardware Updates
Optional Updates

Service Packs (SP) are comprehensive updates to the OS, fixing every single vulnerability in the OS since the release of the OS itself or the last SP release. SP's also include major OS changes, newer updates to system files and they contain every single update to the OS that has ever been released. Also, SPs are cumulative, so if you were to install SP1, it would contain every single update since the OS release and if you install SP2, it would contain every single update that has been released since SP1, and it would also include the updates of SP1 also. So, if you are patching an OS with an SP, you dont have to go around installing SP1, then SP2, SP3, etc. Installing the latest SP would mean you're getting all the updates. The latest SPs for the various OS are:

Windows XP - SP2:
The best way to get SP2 for Windows XP is either via Automatic Updates (I will get to this later), Windows Update, ordering the free Service Pack 2 from Microsoft, (click this link to place your order) or from the Digit September 2004 CD/DVD. However, if you want to download it yourself, a larger network install can be downloaded here.

Windows 2000 - SP4 Download

Windows NT 4.0 - SP6a Download

Microsoft only releases an SP for the OSes that can be used as full-fledged network clients, so there are no SPs for Windows ME, 98 SE, 98 and 95, only the standalone updates. However, an Unofficial SP exists for Microsoft Windows 98 SE.

Windows 98 SE Unofficial SP - Version 2.0 RC1 Download

Critical Updates are those very important updates that Microsoft releases in response to a threat against the Windows OS. There is no option and these should not be avoided. Installing these updates is a must if you dont want your system exploited or open to infection. Microsoft usually releases a slew of these updates every month.

Hotfixes are patches to existing Windows components that address a vulnerability in the code and are released as and when the vulnerabilities are discovered. Needless to say, you need these as well if you want to protect your OS.

Cumulative Updates and security Rollups are a bunch of related updates and hotfixes that enhance the security of the Windows component and also patch any existing unpatched vulnerability. Of course, you need these too.

Hardware Updates can sometimes be found on Windows Update when your hardware manufacturer, like your motherboard manufacturer, releases patches, fixes and updates that usually add functionality and improve performance of your hardware components. While these updates are optional, it is recommended that you install them because they often boost your hardware's performance and provide newer functionality that you can take advantage of.

Optional Updates are just that. They're optional and its your choice whether you wish to update/upgrade them. Usually, these fall in the category of extra tools for the Windows OS such as a newer Media Player, a Journal Viewer, Movie Editing Software, software to make applications programmed in the .NET environment to work, etc. You can safely ignore these updates if you are not planning to use them.

Microsoft releases a number of updates on the second Tuesday of every month, which many of us geeks fondly call "Patch Tuesday". Make sure you bookmark this day in your calendar each month and check for updates. Also, if a threat is severe enough, it may make the people at Microsoft release an update before the planned Patch Tuesday.

Also, most programs have updates for themselves. While some are improvements on features, its not uncommon for products to include security enhancements as well. Keep track of the products you're using and check for updates for your software products regularly. This is especially important when it comes to Microsoft Office products as their updates can have a significant impact on sysem security. You can always visit Office Update to check for the latest updates to your Office products.

Step Two Point Five: Honesty Pays

It is worthwhile to mention that when it comes to Windows OSes, it is better to pay for a legal, genuine copy of the OS to enable you to get the latest updates without a hassle. When it comes to Windows XP, it will not allow you to install a genuine copy of the SP or some critical fixes unless you have a legit version of the OS. Yes, cracked SPs exist and you can always install them, but you will be doing the world a lot of good, not to mention yourself, if you just get yourself a legit copy of at least Windows XP Home. You just spent over 20,000 on that new computer, the least you can do is spend another 4000 and live quite happily afterwards.

Step Three: Securing the OS

Here we will take a look at securing the OS itself without using any third party software. The most important tool here is the "Automatic Updates" option. You can usually find this option in the Control Panel, if you are running Windows ME, Windows 2000 (with the appropriate SP) or Windows XP.

When you open the Automatic Updates option, you will be faced with a couple of options including (exact wordings may differ)
Automatically Download and Install Updates
Download Updates but let me choose when to install them
Notify me of updates but do not automatically download or install them
Turn off Automatic Updates

It is recommended that you select Option 3 - "Notify me of updates but do not automatically download or install them" instead of Option 4, turning off the Auto Update feature. This way, when an important update is released, the Automatic Updates feture will inform you that updates are available for your OS and you can go to Windows Update and download and install them at your convenience. Also this way, you can tell when an update is being offered before the Patch Tuesday cycle and stay protected.

Windows XP comes with a built in Firewall to protect your computer, but its not a worthy solution when compared to a standalone firewall, so I will skip that in favor of a third party firewall solution.

Also, make sure you secure your user account with a password so that no one can fiddle with your system in your absence and then damage the OS.

Windows XP, when patched with Service Pack 2, comes with a Security Center option that can be accessed via the Control Panel. When you restart your computer after installing SP2, you will be prompted to choose an Automatic Updates method (1 out of the 4 choices) The Security Center also monitors the status of the built-in Windows Firewall, which is enabled by default and also the status of your antivirus program, whether it is on, turned off or if it requires an update. However, it only works with well known antivirus solutions. If any of these components are not working right or are turned off or disabled, the Security Center will pop up a warning in your system tray notification area, alerting you.

Step Four: Protection with Third Party Software

Antivirus Solutions

The biggest threat to a Windows system is a virus. How or why a virus attacks and how it spreads, I am not going to go into here. Usually a virus spreads through one of these mediums:
a) an infected floppy or CD
b) an infected file over the network
c) an infected file from the Internet
d) an infected file you received via e-mail or instant messenger.

An antivirus program is a third party solution that runs all the time in your system and monitors and protects your system from viruses and maybe, other threats, depending on the product and its version. It includes a scanning engine and a list of signatures of known viruses that it compares to files staying in your computer's memory and hard disk as well as the ones coming in and going out. If it detects a virus, it immediately stops the activity of the file and informs you about the virus' presence and prompts you to either clean the file or delete it. It should be noted that the major antivirus vendors, McAfee, Symantec, Trend Micro, Kaspersky, etc. release newer versions of their antivirus programs at least once each year in addition to releasing "updates" for the antivirus program every week.

You should have the latest version of the antivirus programs running at all times, and should also make sure its updated every week with the latest virus "signatures." Failure to do any of these two steps may mean an immediate infection. All antivirus programs come with an Automatic Update feature built in that will automatically contact its server and look for available updates and then download and install them automatically. It is recommended that you leave this feature turned on.

Here are a list of instructions that you should actively follow to prevent an infection:
a) Make sure you use the latest version of your antivirus and keep it updated weekly and make sure its auto-update feature is turned on.
b) Never use a CD or a floppy without scanning it for viruses.
c) Do not open files from the Internet without scanning them with the antivirus. Most download managers can integrate with the antivirus program to automatically scan the downloaded files. Turn this feature on.
d) Do not accept and download files from an Instant Messenger conversation if you do not know what it is. Also, all instant messengers can integrate with the antivirus. Turn this feature on.
e) Never open an attachment from an email, no matter what extension it is, without first scanning it with an antivirus. Again, all email clients can integrate with your antivirus solution to automatically scan for viruses in your emails.

Trial Software:
Norton Antivirus 2005
McAfee VirusScan
Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2005 (Currently the best, in my opinion)
Kaspersky Antivirus 5.0 Personal
NOD32 2.0 - v7.20
Norman Virus Control
CA eTrust Antivirus v7.1

Free Antivirus Software:
AVG Antivirus v7.308
avast! 4 Home Edition
AntiVir Personal Edition

Firewalls:

In this day, when broadband and LAN/Cable Internet access is rampant, there is always a chance that somemay may break into your computer, gain access and control your computer to do malicious acts without your permission. A firewall acts like a filter for the data that's going in and out of your computer. If it detects that a program is trying to access the Internet or your local network without your permission, it will stop such activity. Also, if a hacker or any other user tries to gain access to your computer without your permission, it will block all such activity too. The Windows Firewall that comes bundled along with Windows XP SP2 is woefully inadequate when it comes to protecting your computer.

The key to running a firewall efficiently is to configure it right. When it comes to configuring, the key steps to remember are these:
a) If you do not know the program, deny it access to the Internet and the local network.
b) Never allow the software to "remember" the access rights for a program, that is, do not wantonly check the "I know this program. Do not ask me again" for programs that you are not absolutely sure about.
c) Some Windows processes need access to the Internet or your local network to work the way its supposed to. Make sure you check the name of the program and its use before you allow or deny access.
d) Unless you run a server or play/host online or network multiplayer games, go ahead and deny inbound access to all programs except your mail clients, browsers, etc.
e) Do not allow programs to connect to the Internet unless they absolutely need to. So while Adobe Acrobat checks for an update with its servers when you start it up, thats OK. But when you are planning to play Quake 3 Arena offline and it tries to connect to the Internet, go ahead and deny it access this time around.

Good firewalls include;

ZoneAlarm (Free) (The best among them all, when you configure it right)
Kerio Personal Firewall (Free)
SyGate Personal Firewall Standard (Free )
Kaspersky Anti-Hacker v1.7 (Trial)
Norton Personal Firewall 2005 (Trial)
McAfee Personal Firewall Plus (Trial)
Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 2005 (Trial)

Anti-Spyware:

Chances are that you're probably using the default Internet Explorer browser that came along with your OS. The browser is literally the weakest link in the Microsoft OS and is a very popular target for people that write software to either attack your computer, or as in most cases, just increase their revenue. People write code called spyware/adware/malware that hijack your browser settings or install software that track your movements online or in some cases, totally prevent you from getting any work done and steal your Internet passwords. And if you're using Internet Explorer, you're their favorite snack.
To test the "integrity" of your browser and whether it is vulnerable to spyware and being hijacked and exploited, run the Browser Security Check here. Chances are, yes, you're very vulnerable. Fortunately, we have software just like antivirus programs - antispyware programs that prevent and clean attacks on your system. As with antivirus, the key to a good antispyware program is to leave its protection system running at all times and to update them regularly with the "signature libraries" of spyware.

Some of the well known products are:

SpyBot - Search and Destroy 1.3 (The best, in my opinion)
LavaSoft Ad-Aware SE Personal v1.05
Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware Beta

Another tools that prevents your browser being hijacked and your critical system settings being changed in BHODemon 2.0. You can download it here. Also, when you install antispyware like SpyBot, you will be prompted to install system protection software called "TeaTimer" and will be prompted to have it automatically startup along with your computer. Select this option and when an important change occurs, you have the option to either accept the change or deny it, effectively killing unwanted program installs and browser hijacks.

Misc. Tools:

Of course, you can always ditch the browser and go for a safer alternative. The best I would recommend is Mozilla Firefox, currently at version 1.0.1. Also the lightest browser around, it makes for the best replacement for Internet Explorer. It also automatically imports all your IE cache, settings, cookies and bookmarks, so you have to do nothing but install it and browse safe.

Get Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1 here!

Also, Microsoft has a Malicious Software Removal Tool that you can download and scan for and remove unwanted malicious software. A newer version of the tool will be released each month. Get it here.

In all my time, one tool that really caught my eye and bowled me over was BlackICE PC Protection. The program is actually a firewall for incoming data, but its being paranoid totally. The program totally blocks all incoming requests and literally hides your PC from the local network and from the Internet, making it totally invisible to the outside world. The program also bundles a nifty tool called "Application Protection." What it does is create a snapshot of all the installed programs and their "code" and if there is ANY change at all in the program, it refuses to let the program load without your permission. Of course, you can always authorize and add the program to a list, authorize it to run only once, or terminate it completely. This is the way a paranoid person like myself protects his system. There is no trial that I know of, but if you're interested you can take a look at the link I posted to find out more about the program.

I hope this helps. If anyone has anymore info to add on protecting their systems, please feel free to add it. I will post a HOWTO on fixing your problems with viruses, spyware and hackers tomorrow.

NOTE: A good site to get all your updates in one shot is The Software Patch or you can use third party tools like AutoPatcher to get the same job done.

Gmail Drive

Gmail Drive

Posted by tech master  |  at  4:12 PM

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Mail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag'n'drop files to.

Ever since Google started to offer users a Gmail e-mail account, which includes storage space of 6000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your Google Mail Account and retrieve them again.
When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer.
You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag'n'drop like you're used to with the normal Explorer folders.

Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder.

Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There's still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 65 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free Gmail Service provided by Google, changes in the Gmail system may break the tool's ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future.

How to Add XP and Vista/Windows7 on One Computer

How to Add XP and Vista/Windows7 on One Computer

Posted by tech master  |  at  3:50 PM

In this post i will be discussing about adding 2 Operating System i.e. XP & Vista/Windows 7 on one single Computer*

Tools Required

1. EasyBCD 1.7.2
2. Windows XP Bootable CD
3. Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0

Recently I upgraded to Windows 7 RC from my XP and experienced the latest features what Microsoft has to offer in their new Version of Windows. I found every aspect of Windows 7 better than XP except for a few software’s which are not compatible with Windows 7 as of now, so I wanted my XP back but I also liked Windows 7 which has so many features which XP doesn’t offer. So it was this requirement of mine which pushed me to get both the OS’s on one system.

So here’s a very easy & small tutorial which will guide on how to add Windows XP assuming that Vista/Windows 7 already installed.

Step 1
Free Some Space for the Installation of XP(20 GB Recommended), I would suggest you empty the drive. Do Not use the same drive where Vista/Windows 7 is installed.

Step 2

Insert your Windows XP CD and Restart your computer.

Step 3
Follow the instructions to Install XP, make sure you don’t install both the OS on a single drive.

Step 4
Once your installation completes, XP will boot up. Now what we are going to do is add Vista/Windows 7 Boot Loader so that at the time of Booting, we are able to see both the Operating Systems and choose according to our wish. So once XP is up and running, install .Net Framework and EasyBCD 1.7.2.

Step 5
Launch EasyBCD 1.7.2, Click On the Add/Remove Entries Tab(see image below)

In the “Add an Entry” section, change the Drive in the dropdown menu from C:\ to the drive where you have installed XP. Change Type to “Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3″, and the Name to “Microsoft Windows XP”. Then click “Add Entry” and “Save”.

Step 6

Then click on the Manage Bootloader Tab, make sure that “Reinstall the Vista Bootloader” is selected then click on “Write MBR” tab(see image below) after that restart your system.

On Reboot, you will be able to see both the Operating Systems, choose according to your wish.

Hacker Develops ATM Rootkit

Hacker Develops ATM Rootkit

Posted by tech master  |  at  11:33 AM

One year after his Black Hat talk on Automated Teller Machine security vulnerabilities was yanked by his employer, security researcher Barnaby Jack plans to deliver the talk and disclose a new ATM rootkit at the computer security conference.

He plans to give the talk, entitled "Jackpotting Automated Teller Machines," at the Black Hat Las Vegas conference, held July 28 and 29.

Jack will demonstrate several ways of attacking ATM machines, including remote, network-based attacks. He will also reveal a "multi-platform ATM rootkit," and will discuss things that the ATM industry can do to protect itself from such attacks, he writes in his description of the talk, posted this week to the Black Hat Web site.

Jack was set to discuss ATM security problems at last year's conference, but his employer, Juniper Networks, made him pull the presentation after getting complaints from an ATM maker that was worried that the information he had discovered could be misused.

The security researcher found a straightforward way of getting around Juniper's objections, however. Last month, he took a new job as director of security research with IOActive.

ATM machines do get compromised, but in a roundabout way. Thieves often hit them by installing card skimmers on them to extract magnetic stripe data from the cards. Then, using a hidden video camera, they steal login numbers. Using all of this information, the crooks can build their own duplicate cards and empty bank accounts.

But Jack's talk looks at a new area: bugs in the software used to run the machines.

He's taken advantage of the extra year provided by Juniper's ban to do more research. "Last year, there was one ATM; this year, I'm doubling down and bringing two new model ATMs from two major vendors," Jack says in his talk description. The security researcher couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Jack doesn't say which ATMs he plans to discuss, but it could be any major vendor, according to Black Hat Director Jeff Moss. "He's got a living room full of a lot of different brands of ATMs, and they all seem to suffer from one or the other problem," he said.

ATMs haven't received a lot of serious scrutiny by security researchers, so Jack's talk will break new ground, Moss said. "Apparently you can make all the money come out," he said.

How to Add Command Prompt To Folder Context Menu

How to Add Command Prompt To Folder Context Menu

Posted by tech master  |  at  1:11 PM

Some time we need to work with some files which located in a particular folder from command prompt. But it’s too complicated to work with long folder ( which even carry spaces ) names or a folder located deep inside other folders. So it’s very convenient if we can launch command prompt from the folder which we want to work with. Vista has this feature. If you hold down the shift key while right clicking on a folder vista gives a option to Open Command Window Here.

But Windows xp does not comes with such option. In this tutorial we will add vista like command prompt option to folder context menu. So when you right click on a folder you can directly open command prompt without changing the path from dos manually.

Follow these steps :

1. Start regedit from run dialogue box.

2. Go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell

3. Create a new key by right clicking on shell & select New > Key

4. Name it command

5. Now select command. On the right pane double click the value Default

6. Now on the Value Data field type Open Command Window Here

7. Now select the command key on the left pane again. Right click on it.

8. Select New > Key & give it’s name command.

9. Now select the command sub key. On right pan double click on the value Default & type cmd.exe /k “cd %L”

cmdreg11

Close regedit ( Registry Editor ). Log off & Log in again.

Now you should see Open Command Window Here whenever you right click on a folder.

This Tutorial should be also called as :

Add command prompt to folder right click menu
Launch command prompt by right clicking on a folder

Multi Partition a USB Flash Drive in Windows

Multi Partition a USB Flash Drive in Windows

Posted by tech master  |  at  5:47 PM

Ever wondered how to set up more than one partition on a using Windows XP? In the following tutorial, I'll show you how to do just that. But first, let me explain how it works. By default, a USB flash drive is detected by Windows XP/Vista as removable media and thus will not display more than one partition. In addition, Windows will not allow you to multi-partition removable media. However, if we can make Windows see the USB flash drive as a fixed drive, Windows will then allow us to create multiple USB flash drive partitions. Windows will also detect and display those multiple USB flash drive partitions.

In order for this to happen, we need to flip the Removable Media Bit (RMB) on the USB Device. This will tell Windows that the flash drive is a fixed disk and not removable media. After successfully flipping the bit, you'll be able to multi partition the flash drive and Windows will display all partitions.
How to Flip the Flash Drive Removable Media Bit:
Warning: This tool will not work on all flash drives and it could potentially mess up your drive. No warranty is being offered, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! backup all information from your USB device before proceeding.
  1. Download the Lexar tool and extract to you
  2. Plugin your flash drive and run the executable
  3. Select the option to Flip Removable Bit:

  4. Then, remove and reinsert your flash drive. Your flash drive should now be detected by Windows as a fixed disk (not a removable disk). You can check this by right clicking the device and checking the device properties.

How to setup multiple flash drive partitions in Windows:
The following assumes that you have already Flipped the Removable Media Bit
  1. Navigate to Start -> Run and type diskmgmt.msc in the dialog box then click Ok
  2. From the window, right click your flash drive and select the option to Delete Partition:
  3. Right Click your flash drive again and select the New Partition option:
  4. Follow the New Partition Wizard and create a "Primary Partition". Once you get to the dialog box to set the Partition Size, be sure to set the Size to be smaller than the drives capacity to leave free space for the next partition:
  5. Continue through the Wizard, giving your device a drive letter and formating the partition. I recommend a Fat32 partition.
  6. After you have created the first partition, you can create additional partitions using step 3-5 on the unallocated empty space that remains on the drive:
  7. Once finished, you should have multiple partitions on your USB flash drive that are detected and usable in Windows as separate drives.

    Enjoy........!!!!

Hacking TELENET

Hacking TELENET

Posted by tech master  |  at  10:56 AM

Telnet is great program for doing a couple of interesting things. if you want to call yourself a hacker, you absolutely MUST be able to telnet!
In this post you will find out a few of the cool things a hacker can do with telnet.

Telenet is a system by which one canaccess almost every data-base and mainframe on the continantal U.S.
Most of these codes do not have passwords with them.
But be careful, more than one group of hackers have gotten busted for using this system for hacking into mainfraimes. An example is the 414's.
If you have read about them in newsweek, it's very scary.

(please dont misuse it, this is just for educational purpose)

What to do - The first thing you have to do if you want to hack with Telenet, is find your local Telenet phone number.
This can be done many ways. One way that always works, is to call up your local computer store, tel them that you recently purchased The Source or something like that, but that you lost the sheet that has the phone no. writen on it.
They'll tell it to you. (People who work in computer stores usualy aren't very smart
about that sort of thing.)

Call the number with your computer. Once the connection is established,
press twice. the computer will display "TERMINAL=" Type again. The computer will then display an at sign: "" Type in the access code here.

below are some access codes listed

(But please dont missuse it)

How to Fix “Task Manager has been Disabled by Your Administrator

Posted by tech master  |  at  3:55 PM

That's a very common problem for Windows users. Many times when you try to open Task Manager, you find that "Task Manager" option has been grayed out:

Also when you try to run it by typing "taskmgr" in RUN dialog box, Windows shows following error message:

Task Manager has been disabled by your administrator.

1. Type regedit in RUN dialog box or Startmenu Search box and press Enter. It'll open Registry Editor. If Registry editor is also disabled, then follow instructions given in following tutorial:

How to Enable Tools -> Folder Options and Registry Editor in Windows

2. Now go to following keys one by one:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\System
HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Policies\System

and look for a DWORD value "DisableTaskMgr" in right-side pane. If you find it, delete it.

3. That's it. Now Task Manager will be enabled.
